While making notes on another post I was reminded of a group (set is too good a word here) of Windows apps that I wrote to support undergraduates taking part in a residential field course to do with topographic surveying. Mostly they were written when the otherwise adequate predecessor apps failed in some way, for example the end of life of hardware, including programs on magnetic cards for an HP9810, HP Basic programs for an HP 9845, and Quattro Pro (for DOS) spreadsheets. As a result, my apps arent elegantly programmed, but they do work. They arent intended to be a replacement for commercial software, but simply to remove the tedious, repetitive and error-prone activities that complement the more important field exercises with total stations, theodolites, levels etc.
Anyone who would like them source code, PPT instructions, CHM help files and icons & bitmaps for toolbars and all as well as executables, just PM me.
The underlying theories can be found in Schofield & Breachs Engineering Surveying, (CRC Press).
