Compatible with Visual Studio 2008?

8 Dec 2008 8:36 #4076

Can Silverfrost Fortran be used with Visual Studio 2008? If so, which version of Visual Studio is necessary - Express, Standard, or Professional?

I believe that you would need standard at least to get the functionality required by FTN95. To attempt to install the plugins manually, then try extracting the exe that FTN95 comes packaged as to a temporary directory and you will find the .msi files there. Try installing the 2008 one directly.

I have the Express version of Visual Studio 2008 installed.

I tried installing the plugin manually, but it said 'Visual Studio 2008 must be installed ...'. So evidently the Express version isn't recognized.

Thanks.

the Free

Visual Studio 2008 Shell

will work with the Silver frost compiler.

this is quite a big download but maybe worth your time

this is the down load page

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=40646580-97fa-4698-b65f-620d4b4b1ed7&displaylang=en

and here is some marketing about it

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vsx2008/products/bb933751.aspx

you don't get any languages with this just the IDE

the silver frost compiler needs to be installed after this.

Thanks, Carl, but I've already bought the Professional version.
