Unable to create or save files across a network

7 Aug 2007 4:29 #2148

A bit of a long shot this questions, but any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Does anyone have any experience of problems with FTN95 saving or creating files across a network?

The folders and permissions are okay on the network drives, so that doesn't appear to be the problem.

We suspect that there is a conflict with some antivirus systems, but can't reproduce the problem on our network.

The situation is overcome if the user logs onto the network as administrator. At least one user us running MS Windows SBS2003.

Thanks

Nigel

Are you using .NET or Win32? I do know of the possibility of file issues with .NET due to rights.

Nigel.

Contrary to you saying that the folder permissions are okay, the fact that an admin account has no problem whilst a simple user account does, points directly to there being insufficient privileges for the user account.

Sorry I can't be any more useful than that !

Finally got a solution.

It transpires that the client who is experiencing the problem has updated his antivirus and it has turned on a network drive protection setting by default, thus preventing the saving of files on any network drive.

The system they are using is 'CA e-Trust Antivirus' and by switching off the 'Protected Network Drives' setting the problem has gone away.

Strange that until the problem was solved we were told that it was only our software which had the problem. It turns out that Microsoft Office was also unable to save any files.
