I've been handling this issue and will approach McAfee for help in resolving the issue, and wanted to check here as well.
When I have McAfee 'real-time scanning' turned on, the following occurs when I run ANY of my programs (done with Plato, my separate MAKE file, etc.).
- The program will take an unusually long time to load. I have a 12-core system running at 4.5 GHz. Loading even a < 10 MB file takes several seconds.
- As it is loading, the CPU utilization shows a full CPU (or more) is being used.
- Once the program is loaded and awaiting clicks/data, the CPU utilization stays fully 1-2 CPU's. Nothing else going on.
- I run the program doing whatever, then exit the program. CPU still running 1-2 full CPU's
- Program has exited. Does not show in the Task Manager, yet CPU still running 1-2 CPU's.
- Re-compile the program and during the link step, fails, because the program file is 'in use'!
- If I just sit tight, and wait, eventually the CPU utilization will drop. However, this might be hours in the future. I once waited all night, finally re-booting the system. N.B.: If I sign-out of my user account, the CPU utilization (evident by the fan speed) will drop more quickly that if I just wait. But that is not a guarantee.
If I turn off real-time scanning, everything runs faster (as expected) and none of the 'file in use' failures occur.
Anyone else having these kinds of issues while running the latest McAfee under Windows 11 (pro)?
