What does slink mean in this context?

I'm curious too. To all fires and hurricanes someone assigns their names. The one who gave this name used this Fortran compiler ?

Brand names (of software, toys, food products) are usually selected/coined so as not to match common words, especially those with pejorative senses.

Perhaps this fire slunk in?

The Slinky toy has been with us for decades, and 'slink' can mean 'give birth to prematurely'.

There is a brand of tyre gauges and air pumps named 'Slime'! Anyone remember 'slime in the ice machine' Marvin Zindler?

Slink, a verb - to move smoothly and quietly with gliding steps, in a stealthy or sensuous manner.

Or formerly the Salford linker, now the Silverfrost linker. Was there any thought in the naming about it running smoothing? Probably not but I think that it does.

I assume it was for Salford Linker. Salford Software couldn't ship the Microsoft COFF linker for FTN77/Win32 so a new one was written. It took quite a long time as I recall probably because it had to cope with lots of the COFF specification that in the end was not utilised.

For the benefit of our cousins across the pond, the past tense of: Slink is slinked, present tense is slinking. Dive is dived, present tense is diving. Sneak is sneaked, present tense is sneaking.

And while I am getting things off my chest, the word 'Buoy' is pronounced 'boy' as in 'Bouyant' and Buoyancy'. Not Boo-eee!

Do not believe the 'Webster's Dictionary of Misspelled words' LOL

...and colour is pronounced color. Hmm...

Whereas, it should really be pronounced 'colØr', where the leter'Ø' is as used in Norwegian!

And the meaning of 'sketchy' is?
