64-bit Plato will not run (Windows 10)

30 Nov 2018 5:28 #22887

After the newest version installation (8.40.0), I tried just today to open Plato.exe (the 64-bit version). A window pops up identifying Plato, then closes without any messages or crash dumps. Just quits.

I was able to open the 32-bit version of Plato without issue.

I wonder if this might also be related to my other issue with /CHECK_WINIO on another thread.

The other problem relates to salflibc.dll. This one relates to clearwin64.dll.

It is strange that you have both a miss-match of FTN95 against salflibc.dll and miss-match of Plato (64 bit) against clearwin64.dll.

A later pair of DLLs is available (see the new video topic in the ClearWin+ section of this forum). You could see if these make any difference.

Fortunately neither issue is show stopping.

Bill,

Sometime these things just happen. My accounts package suddenly stopped working on my desktop (64-bit Windows 10) machines, whereas it had worked perfectly before, and it does work now after a clean install (I put in an SSD as the boot disk). The symptoms you describe were what I had, although it is a 32-bit application. When it wasn't working, attempting to start it made it fly into the taskbar, and sulk.

I've had some antivirus software prevent FTN95 programs from running, and McAfee prevented machines from connecting to a networked printer.

That's not to say you haven't found a bug, of course,

Is anyone else experiencing the same failures as Bill?

I have no extra copies of clearwin64.dll other than where they get installed during the upgrade process. The date is 7 November 2018.

I looked in my AV software (McAfee) and don't see any security alerts/program stoppages. I'll dig deeper.....

I suggest that you get the latest DLLs by going first to https://forums.silverfrost.com/Forum/Topic/3475.

Also check that your PATH environment variable is set up to include the path to your installation of FTN95.

Paul,

No difference after downloading and installing the DLL's.

The PATH variable is set correctly.

I've set my preferred PLATO to the 32-bit version (works fine for me), and no /CHECK_WINIO until further investigation.

After other users weigh in, perhaps a solution for one or both will become apparent!

For now, I'm good! Bill

Paul

depending on the complexity of the project im working on(200+ source file, 350+ includes) Plato(64) hangs for fun (win 7/64, win 10) so i have basically abandoned it for Plato32.

Also moving the Open project & Recent project functions under the Open menu was a retrograde step as there is an extra menu selection needed for the same result.
