Installation problem.

9 Aug 2014 7:58 #14435

It could be me, but when I try to install Version 7.00 Personal Edition on a Windows 7 machine, the setup program doesn't let me change the install directory.

Even though I can browse for the folder I want C:\FTN95 or type it in, the install always goes in C:\Program Files (x86)\Silverfrost\FTN95.

As you know, this can cause some issues with SDBG options and window sizes not being kept.

I just tried it and it installed into c:\ftn95 quite happily.

Not here. Did you try it using a standard 'non-administrator' account?

Can you write to 'program files' without using an administrator account?

Yes I can.

The IT dept have set it so I can make folders and copy files in C:\Program Files (x86) if I want but I can't install anything that needs elevated privileges without an admin password.

FTN95 installs in C:\Program Files (x86) just fine. The only issue is I can't let it set up the system PATH automatically so I have manually changed the user PATH instead.

I have permissions set so I can install to the C:\FTN95 folder as well, but FTN95 refuses to install to that folder.

I can work around the SDBG issues by creating a copy in C:\ and adjusting the PATH to look there first. But I thought it helpful to let you know of this install issue, albeit on quite a non-standard build.
