FORTRAN 95 tutorial or course

30 Nov 2012 10:26 #11214

Hi people! I'm new on the programming world and I'm learning FORTRAN because I study oceanography and have a part of oceanography that uses fortran for ocean numerical modelling.

Okay... going to the question: I want to know if someone can advice me some course or book free to learn fortran.

obs: if u just want to give some advices... i accept 😄

If you have downloaded FTN95 then you will find tutorials by running Plato and then looking at the Help menu. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 then you will need to download win32hlp.exe from the internet.

The standard Fortran text book is by Metcalf and Reid.

The Metcalf, Reid and Cohen books are good reference books, but not really aimed at a beginner in the language.

A reasonable start is the following book by Martin Counihan, which has lots of good examples in it for someone starting out and the additional virtue of being FREE:
