SDBG variable window sizing conundrum

12 Jan 2010 8:32 #5701

This is a difference between two machines with the same version of FTN95 installed.

When using SDBG (under control of Plato, but I don't think that's an important detail), it is possible, once a program is running and a breakpoint is reached, to right click on the name of any variable visible in a source window, and open up a separate little variable window containing the type and value of just that variable - quite useful to monitor how that variable changes with a breakpoint set inside a loop, for example.

One one machine, the windows opened up are sized sensibly - enough to accommodate the (variable) width of information contained, with a bit of wiggle room on the RHS.

On the other machine (on which FTN95 has recently been reinstalled) the windows opened up are sized nonsensically - apparently fixed width, regardless of content, and approximately full screen width. Wide enough, at any rate, that the information is invariably off the RH side of the screen when they are created, because the starting position is not centred on the screen, but shifted significantly to the right. So I have first to move and then to resize each window, which is a PITA.

There is (AFAICS) no menu setting that controls this aspect of the display. Has anyone else seen this and managed to fix it? Or do any clever Silverfrostians know what is going on?

Hopefully,

Andy

Once you have sized each window you can fix the position and size by clicking on the system icon (top left corner of each child window) and then selecting the appropriate option. You need to do this for each child window.

Thanks Paul - that's not something I was aware of. I have just done a little experimentation with the machine that is not causing a problem and it seems to do what I would want. I shall experiment with the naughty machine next time I have access to it (might be a weather-dependent day or two).
