We have a Windows 2003 Server system that performs ID&A to windows XP, SP2 Clients.
Visual Studio 2003 is installed onto Clients and works as expected.
Logging onto client as Administrator account (Authenticating via domain, not via local PC)
Installed FTN95, ran up as Administrator, worked successfully Very Happy

However, when I log off from the Administrator account and back in as a standard non privileged user, the following occurs

1. Run Visual Studio, see the Saltform Software icon in the splash screen Very Happy
2. File, New Project, select FTN95 Projects. The icons are the default Windows Icons, not the Saltford FTN ones
3. Select FTN Application, default name and Press OK
4. Big Error message as follows

Window Banner reads "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Text of window reads

Code:
"RunTime Error!
Program V:Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003Common7IDEDevenv.exe
This Application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information

Pressing the OK button terminates Visual Studio.

No events are written to the event logs, this behaviour also occurs when authenticating against a Windows NT domain.
I have installed and ran successfully when logging onto local machine as an account in Administrators group, but I really need to be able to execute this
in a non Administrators group.

Anyone any ideas ?

Thanks

Mike

There is a solution to this. You need to do the install in two stages. Along with the personal edition installer you need the Visual Studio .NET plugin available from:

http://www.salfordsoftware.co.uk/software/downloads/compilers.html

There is a bug in the main installer that means that if you select install for all users, the Visual Studio .NET plugin still only gets installed for the current user. To solve this, do the following (as an administrator)

- Perform an install of FTN95 and when the dialog appears asking which versions of Visual Studio .NET to integrate with appears, delselect anything that is selected. Then let the install complete. FTN95 will be installed but without the Visual Studio .NET plugin.

- Install the Visual Studio .NET plugin and when able to select the option, select to install for all users. Let the installation complete. The Visual Studio component of FTN95 will now be installed and everything should be available to all users.

I will get this added to the knowledge base.
