It may not be what you want, but I simply use "write (*,*) message"
This provides me with an OUTPUT window which provides all the messaging info I need. You can drag it to a second screen and watch what you need. It is probably a lazy approach but can work easily.
You can also control the maximim buffer size for OUTPUT if necessary.
