I have been running Plato on several computers to compile and run various Ftn95 programs. One of the nice things about it, is the row/column indicator at the bottom of the Plato window, telling you which row and column of your FORTRAN code, the cursor is presently on.
One reason it's handy, of course, is that when you have a bug in the program, you usually get an error message describing the problem, and telling you which line of the (FORTRAN) code was being executed when the problem cropped up. It's easy, using the row/column indicator, to move the cursor to the line in question, and figure out what to do from there.
But I have installed Plato on a Windows 2000 system, also. Everything looks the same, except the row/column indicator at the bottom of the window, is gone. That makes it a lot tougher to tell exactly where the latest error is, especially in thousand-line programs.
Is there something I can do in this Windows 2000 implementation, to get the row/column indicator back? |

The only way that I can think of to switch this on and off is via the View menu under Status Bar. This item should have a check mark against it. |

I looked there with a program loaded, and there was indeed a check mark against the "Status Bar" item. And the lowest bar in the window, was there, with an indication of "Ready" on the left side of the bar. The rest of the bar (where the Row/Column indicator is in WinXP and WinVista64 systems) is blank.
I clicked on "Status Bar", and the menu went away; and I could see that that bottom bar with the word "Ready", was now gone.
Clicked on View/Status Bar again, and the bottom bar with the word "Ready" came back. But that bottom bar has never had the Row/Column indicator, on this Windows 2000 system.
That bottom bar DOES have the Row/Column indicator, on my Windows XP Pro system. Ditto on my laptop with the Windows Vista 64-bit system.
Has anyone there, checked for this on a Windows 2000 system? |

Unrelated to your question, but I notice you use a laptop with the Windows Vista 64-bit system.
Could you provide some indication of how you are finding it's use, especially:-
What type is it ?
How much memory do you have installed ?
How are you finding it's use for 64-bit programming solutions ?
I was also intrigued to read Dan Right's earlier comment that
"Even 64-bit Windows limits static code and data to 2GB. This means that you can't simply declare a 4GB COMMON"
Are you aware of this limit ? |

I do not know why you cannot see the line and column indicators.
Can you see other indicators such as the progress bar, READ only and OVL indicators when they apply? Can you see the vertical bars between the boxes for the various indicators?
I can think of two possible reasons 1) the font colour is the same as the background, or the boxes are off the screen somewhere. |
