Interesting item appeared on the "Start Page" of my PSCAD-EMTDC installation today.

The latest news coming from the Intel Fortran development team tells us that the future of the Intel 32 bit Fortran Compiler is coming to an end. The new Intel Fortran Compiler (IFX) is only being developed as a 64 bit application. It is now being distributed along with the current Intel Fortran Compiler (IFORT) that has 32 and 64 bit versions. As far as we know, the plan by Intel is to phase out IFORT in the coming releases and eventually distribute IFX 64 bit as their only Fortran compiler.

What this means for PSCAD users with Intel compiled libraries

Older models that were developed and distributed with precompiled 32 bit libraries will have to use Intel Fortran versions that support 32 bit. As of today all Intel Fortran releases up to 2023 support 32 bit and that support is expected to end soon. In the near future, if you plan to run a model developed in 32 bit, you will need to download an older Intel compiler.

Model Developers are strongly encouraged to create and distribute precompiled libraries in both 32 and 64 bit versions moving forward. This will allow users to run their models in the future when 64 bit compilers will be the only ones available.
