I find I cannot delete a block of data in Plato3. None of Ctrl X, Del, cut
icon, Edit-cut will delete the selected block; a copy is made onto the
clipboard but the original block is left in the source file. What can I do?

I am puzzled by this since I cannot recall anyone else reporting this kind of fault.

I assume that you can edit a file in other ways (by typing etc.). Otherwise, somehow you have managed to open the file as "Read Only".

Can you delete single characters by pressing Del without making a selection?
Try using different methods to select text (dragging the mouse, holding down the shift key and using the arrow keys, click at one end then shift and click at the other end).

Try forcing a refresh after the delete in case the action has been made but not displayed. The simplest way to do this is to minimise Plato3 and then restore it. Cool

I can delete single characters using delete and then save the new file.

Selecting blocks in differents ways (dragging mouse or using shift & arrow keys) makes no difference.

Overtyping and adding new text is OK.

Delete should fail if the selection includes collapsed (outlined) text otherwise I do not know what is going wrong.

What operating system are you using?
Does it make any difference if the selection is within a line or goes beyond the end of the line?

Outlining is not enabled.

Doesn't make any difference if its part of a line or a whole line. 'Cut Line' and 'Del Line' don't delete lines either, lines pasted to the clipboard.

Using Win2K, 5.00.2195, SP2 plus all later essential patches.

Can I re-install Plato3 without uninstalling FTN95 first?

You cannot install Plato separately. I suggest you upgrade to version 4.80 or use the service pack for 4.71. The service pack will be relatively quick to install.

I found it! At last!

Options, Text Editor, General, "Typing replaces selection" has to be selected.
