TEX … A VERY , useful addition.

Has anyone who has downloaded the latest release of ftn95 delved into using TEX for equation writing, which was introduced (albeit somewhat 'under the radar' in an ‘experimental’ form, with the recent v8.5 release ?

Ref.
https://silverfrost.com/ftn95-help/clearwinp/gdialog/svg.aspx

This looks like a very useful addition, for labelling diagrams with primitives and also graphics.

Personal users like myself will have to wait 4 or 5 months before getting our hands on it to try out, It would be interesting for us to see what it’s capable of and what it’s restrictions in it’s current form might be.

The documentation is a little sparse still (understandable since remember it’s still experimental) and the examples given only relate to using the OPEN_ and CLOSE_ SVG file commands, and the newly developed interactive EditSVG Utility.

What is really interesting (for me at least) is the IMPORT_TEX_OBJECT@ function which can be used to ‘hard-code’ into a program.
The ‘interactive’ manipulation provided by the EditSVG Utility is great, but is obviously restricted to modifying individual SVG files after they have been generated (imagine doing it for 100 or so !!!)

Finding MiKTeX

The ftn95 documentation (see link above on main post) is quite clear, it recommends using the (freeware) MiKTeX program implementation of LATEX, saying others may work but not guaranteeing it
(Silverfrost metamorphosing towards $ilverfrost in hommage to M$ ? … LOL)

As I didn’t find a link to download it (anti-favoritism political correctness gone mad imo) I include some info. here.

To DownLoad MěKTeX (the recommended flavour of TEX/LATEX for use with ftn95) :

The MiKTeX website is at www.miktex.org , but like numerous freeware websites out there it’s somewhat idiotsynchratic, including in this case spotting a link for 32 bit windows download !!!

Go to : https://miktex.org/download

Then Click the ‘All Downloads’ tab at the bottom of the Getting MiKTeX section at the top of the page to get the list of alternative downloads (incl. Windows 32 bit !)

There is a ‘basic’ installation and also a full installation available for both Windows 32bit and 64bit.

Penguin and 'Bohemian' (.NET Wink ) versions as well as a portable Windows version are all available.

So all querks and folies are catered for.

Yer takes yer choice, etc… etc…..

A quick glance reveals the manual (see the miktex homepage) available online (html) and as a downloadable .pdf, to be one of those ‘very complete’ but ‘un-easily-readable for the average Joe’.
It’s probably best to go with googling some examples first and then learning by looking up the various commands as required.
It’ll probably stop your brain hurting too much. I speak from experience.
