Dan,

I am afraid for the moment we have to live with the fact that the names and/or interfaces of the 32 bit utilities and 64 bit utilities used for ftn95 code generation differ (to some extent). On the other hand I think it is more important that the functionaltiy is available as opposed to having exactly the same names/interfaces in the utilities.

I tried to keep all these changes in utility names and interfaces and extensions (concerning the res files e.g.) within the build batch files I use for building. This is annoying but I don't know a better solution for my build environment (which is quite complex).

Concerning the 64 bit res files: the extension (res) is needed for the slink64 load command. Without the extension slink64 expects suffix obj even for a resource file.

If specifiying extension res (e.g. lo myfile.res) then slink64 does not display that is has been loaded (see my post above).

Regards,
Dietmar

Thanks for giving us an insight into all this Dietmar.

I guess in later release Paul will make SLINK64 automatically pick up .res resource files by default (it must be a minor modification to do that).
Then you guys with large batch files would be able to write those script files without extensons, making them 'uni-sex' as it were. Which I'm sure is the eventual design goal.

The issue raised by Dietmar regarding the lack of a loading report for .res files has been fixed here...

Dan: I am not clear as to whether there is a remaining issue regarding the behaviour of SLINK64 within batch files. There was a problem at one point but it was fixed. If the problem remains, please supply a simple demo.

Dietmar,

While I agree that it is not essential that the names are the same - in some ways it is better that they are not - it does mean that the documentation needs to be up to date and clear.
