Could a New forum Topic be created, for documentation queries ? ... for example, to report confusions such as this one, well it confused the hell out of me for one ....

So Trim@ to the front, trim to the right ? Is that actually correct because if you blindly follow the comment on last line you could get incorrect results !

There is an error in the documentation. TRIM@ does remove leading spaces but the correct alternative is ADJUSTL. But note that TRIM@ is a subroutine whilst ADJUSTL is a function.

Thanks Paul, and for the main question, can we have a few more forum 'Topics' set up :- 'Documentation', maybe also 'Error Messages' and say 'FTN95 64 bit' ???

Also, ADJUSTL isn't the equivalent because :-

Fortran character variables have a fixed length and are automatically padded with trailing spaces so removing leading spaces has the effect of moving them to the end.

I think that several more topics added to the repertoire of the forum would be a great idea, so not just 'Documentation'. What about '64 bit options and issues' or 'requests for help from novices'?

Hello, I'm digging this post out because, although we got a '64 bit' Topic (thank you), although I think that was co-incidental with the release of the 64 bit version rather than a direct response to this post .....

Still missing are:-

'Novices Corner' - a good Eddie suggestion above

'Documentation' - for reporting suspected errors in and/or suggestions for additions

'Error Messages' - for raising questions about messages which are not understood, or not clear, or obvously useless (in debugging terms for the common man

... and whatabout 2 new ones for the list ......

'Graphing & Charts'
- for SIMPLEPLOT (Workarounds-Upgrade(1)-Replacement(1))''
(1) - as appropriate) , questions and discussions
(we live in perpetual hope on something moving on this one !)

and not forgetting:-

'.NET' - for all .NET specific code issues and discussions about how to get started, etc....

... well not actually a new one the last one becasue there was an ignored requst for it by DanRRight in a post 3 years ago, and the very recent post of this week would merit going in there too.

It would be very helpful to have these topiìcs, not only for users trying to sort the wood from the trees in the very dense 'General' category, but also for Paul et Al in keeping track of things to fix/correct/update in documentation.

I'm sure others will have additional suggestions too.

there wasn't any feedback on these suggestions since Paul 'passed the message on'.
As a recent example all the 3 /or is it 4 ) posts concerning native &PL would have gone nicely into a 'Graphics & Plotting' forum topic for example.

Are there any plans to expand the forum topics then ? (with the ones suggested in this post, or maybe others)

Bearing in mind Dan's other suggestion about 'Exampls' that could also be a good forum topic (for any problems excountered or requests/submissions of specific examples
