You can define the margins as integer variables and build up the pl string as follows before the final call to pl.

I was using windows 10, 8.10 compiler and DLL14. Checkmate 64 and Release 64 both generate the unexpected results.

Reverting back to DLL13 - I still see the same unexpected behaviour.

Dan's data combined with Friday's "hack" and I can replicate the performance of the old simple plot with the native %pl.

And it works for log_log scale ...
